So much has been happening for some of the incredibly talented short story writers who have won or been shortlisted in our Awards over the past few years and are published in our yearly anthologies. Congratulations first to Caroline Ward Vine, whose short story Unravelling was short-listed in BSSA 2018 and is published in the 2018 anthology. Caroline won the Costa Short Story Award this January for her story Breathing Water and she also reached the short list of ten for the Mslexia short story competition with another story.
Nick Petty who was shortlisted in BSSA 2018 for his story Down in the Mud on Limehouse Beach and is published in the 2018 anthology has just been notified that his story It is Summer at Camp Pomodoro has reached the short list of ten for the prestigious Galley Beggar Press short story prize. Best wishes for the next stage to Nick.
Chloe Turner who won our local prize in both 2017 and 2018 with her stories, Breaking the Glassblower’s Heart and Witches Sail in Eggshells is having a full short story collection published by Reflex Press later this year. It will be a great read and a marvellous addition to the BSSA library of authors.
KM Elkes who won the local prize in 2015 with his story Three Kings and was shortlisted in 2014 with his story Greta Garbo and the Chrysanthenmum Man was, this month, one of four finalists for the major literary award, the Manchester Fiction Prize with his story A Notion of Limbs. He also won the International Bath Flash Fiction Award in June 2018 with his micro fiction Extremeties, is published in the anthology Bath Flash Fiction, Vol 3, and has a full collection of flash fiction forthcoming from Ad Hoc Fiction later this year. Many congratulations to Ken and another book for the BSSA shelves.
Sara Collins whose two stories Say You and Light Like You were shortlisted in the 2016 BSSA anthology and whose story Lilith was shortlisted in BSSA 2015 has a highly anticipated historical novel The Confessions of Frannie Langton coming out this year with Penguin which you can pre-order (on the link above) now. This is going to be fantastic. We can’t wait to add this to our shelves.
